‘Tuhan Harun’ pleads not guilty to spreading deviant teachings

KUANTAN: ‘Tuhan Harun’ or Harun Mat Saad, 47, pleaded not guilty at the Syariah High Court here yesterday to spreading deviant teachings against Islam since February this year.

Wearing a purple police lock-up uniform, he made the plea before Judge Mohd Yusof Ab Ghani.

Harun was charged with spreading deviant teachings which went against Islam and declaring himself as ‘Tuhan Harun’ or ‘Tuhan 2013’ (God Harun or God 2013) at a premises at Lorong Pandan Damai near here between February and April 4.

He faces a fine of RM5,000 or three years’ jail or both upon conviction under Section 162 (1) of the Pahang Islamic Religious Administration & Malay Customs Enactment 1982.

The court set bail at RM3,000 with two sureties and fixed July 2 to 4 as the trial dates.

Pahang Islamic Religious Syariah Department chief prosecutor Salehuddin Abd Manaf appeared for the prosecution.

Later at the Lower Syariah Court, the accused also pleaded not guilty to ten other related charges.

Among the charges were printing leaflets and books on the deviant teachings and possession of a document titled ‘Harun God 2013’ believed to be intended for distribution to confuse the public and deviate the true Islamic teachings.

He faces a fine of RM2,000 or one year jail or both upon conviction under Section 164 of the same Enactment.

Judge Abdul Wahid Md Ali set bail at RM15,000 with two sureties and fixed the trial dates for Aug 20 and 21. — Bernama
