We decide whether to have hudud law in Sarawak — Taib

SIBU: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Taib Abdul Mahmud says Sarawakians have a choice whether to implement hudud law in the state.

“I don’t think PAS can implement hudud law in multiracial Sarawak. We have a choice in this. We have been very tolerant.

“Muslims have their own way of doing things and if they observe that hudud law is better, we will be the first one to enforce it and systemise the zakat law ahead of anybody else,” said Taib after a meet-the-people session here yesterday.

PAS has claimed that the party would implement hudud law in Sarawak if they came to power.

On DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s claim that if the opposition were to come to power, action would be taken to remove Taib through Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation, Taib said Lim was ignorant of the constitution.

He said he could not be removed from the post (chief minister) because the state BN won two-thirds majority in the 2011 state election.

“Remove me by rebellion? Who is to remove him (Lim)? This is the talk of a dictator. He (Lim) does not know the constitution,” said a clearly agitated Taib.

And when the question of his retirement was posted to him by a reporter, Taib answered back : “When will the reporter retire?”

He said it was a personal question and not a question to be raised by a reporter.

“I decide the best time to leave,” said Taib, who is also state BN chairman.
