I will criticise Najib if he does not deliver – senator

KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) deputy president Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin said he would criticise Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak if he failed to achieve his transformation goals in the next five years.

Urging everyone to give the Prime Minister another five years for him to bring a better development to the people and country, Chin said Najib had implemented many transformation programmes which had achieved certain effects.

“We believe that Najib can do it. If he does not walk the talk, I, Chin Su Phin, will be the first to bombard him in the parliament.”

Chin also believes that if Najib does not fulfill his promises, no one would ever listen to him again five years later.

He said this when campaigning for his brother, Shu Ying, for the Likas seat at Dah Yeh Villa here on Wednesday.

Chin urged the people to vote for the five LDP candidates so that they could fight for their interests effectively.

The other LDP candidates are Datuk Liew Vui Keong (Sandakan), Datuk Teo Chee Kang (Tanjung Kapor), Datuk Pang Yuk Ming (Merotai) and Charles Pang Su Pin (Karamunting).

Although the BN government is not perfect, he said the people can witness what the BN had done for the nation’s development and multi-racial harmony.

“The schools, temples and churches in Sabah receive the government’s allocation every year, which is not only given out during election,” he said.

Chin added the current political trend in Malaysia showed that Malay voters were still strong supporters of BN, while Kadazans would take the lead from Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

“Now that Pairin (his party PBS) is in BN, Kadazans would continue to support the coalition,” he said.

On the other hand, there are only eight Chinese-majority constituencies in Sabah.

“If these eight seats fell into the hands of the opposition, what can they do for the people?”

The reality has proven that Jimmy Wong Sze Phin of DAP, Melanie Chia and Datuk Liew Teck Chan of SAPP cannot even bring their heads up in the State Cabinet, he said.

He stressed that the opposition would only make empty promises.

“All the father and son, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng (DAP advisor and secretary-general respectively) do are to fly here and there within the country, shout a little in Kota Kinabalu and fly back to the peninsula.

“The opposition can only win two to three seats here, what can they do?” Chin continued, adding that DAP’s irregularity with the party’s central executive committee (CEC) was reported by a member of DAP itself.

“When the Registrar of Society (ROS) received the complaint, they naturally instructed DAP to explain. If the explanation is reasonable the ROS will accept it. But Lim Kit Siang wept in front of the media, when the ROS did not even de-register the party. What was he crying about? He was just trying to gain sympathy.”

Chin said LDP was deemed the opposition party within BN because the party has always held on to its principles since it was founded by Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat.

“We will not put aside the public interest for a ministerial post, even if BN has done anything wrong. We dare to speak and fight for it.”

Chin said he himself dared to speak up in the parliament, and believed that his brother, Shu Ying, would do the same in the State Cabinet.

Commenting on SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee, he said Yong kept calling for autonomy in Taman Foh Sang.

“When PBS governed Sabah in the past, they had autonomy and Yong was part of the party, but what had he done?

“Yong Teck Lee quit PBS before the state election in 1994 and allied with BN and Umno; he must think he is stronger now to quit BN and Umno and starts calling for autonomy.”

“SAPP does not dare to criticize BN, even if it does, it was very minor because Yong Teck Lee wanted to stay in the middle. If SAPP wins 25 seats, then the party can negotiate with both BN and Pakatan Rakyat on ministerial posts.”

He asked the people what had Yong and Datuk Liew Teck Chan done as Likas assemblymen for the past 20 years, and what development had Yong brought as Chief Minister for two years.

Chin said his brother Shu Ying had promised him that if he was given the mandate, he would look into the traffic congestion in Dah Yeh Villa.

“Chin Shu Ying has been in politics for 20 years, his character is similar to mine, he is fluent in Malay, English and Mandarin. If he is elected, no one will be able to bully him, and he will certainly speak out on unfair treatment.”

He added that BN had sufficient experience, talents and financial resources, unlike the opposition.
