KUCHING: Independent radio station — Radio Free Sarawak (RFS) — is said to be of big help to the opposition in their election campaign.
The radio station is set up by journalist Clare Rewcastle Brown and helmed by former CATs FM Radio DJ Peter John Jaban or better known by his on-air pseudonym Papa Orang Utan, Christina Suntai who graduated from Florida Technical College in computer science and computer programming, and Michael Ngau.
PKR state vice-chairman See Chee How said RFS was different from other radio stations in the sense that the information shared with listeners was uncensored and that had enabled the people, especially those in the rural areas, to make their own judgment on the happenings around them.
“RFS is an interactive station where listeners can also call in to voice out their suggestions, grouses and unhappiness.
“In a way I think RFS is helping us in our campaign with its more balanced reports on the air which can be picked up by listeners in the rural areas,” he said.
See, who is also Batu Lintang assemblyman, said unlike RFS other radio stations had their own limitations because they were mostly controlled by the government.
Nevertheless, he said, the party would not be depending entirely on the radio but their candidates would also be working very hard on the ground to canvass for support.
PKR, a member of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition, is contesting in 15 seats this election.
