Tan Kai calls DAP’s promise to build highway delusive

KUCHING: BN-SUPP’s candidate for Bandar Kuching, Tan Kai, has lashed out at his opponent DAP’s Chong Chieng Jen for making a delusive promise to fish for votes.

Tan, also SUPP Youth chief, pointed out that it would be impossible to construct a 2,500km highway from southern Sarawak to northern Sabah in five years.

“I have consulted a lot of people including civil engineers. If Pakatan were to construct a highway of 2,500km within five years, it would mean more than 1km of highway to be done a day.

“There is a normal process to go by if you want to construct highway. First, you need to appoint a consultant; second, you need to carry out site survey as certain areas are covered by rivers and mountains; third, soil investigation is required because some areas are not hard ground.

“And then you need to come up with design, later call for open tender and last award the project for implementation. It is a long process and you can ask any civil consultant, and none will tell you it can be achieved within five years,” he told a news conference at SUPP headquarters here yesterday.

Tan, an engineer by profession, said it was vital for voters to realise that DAP leaders had the tendency to “talk for the sake of talking.”

He added that Pakatan Rakyat manifesto and promises “are masterminded and produced by a bunch of opportunistic politicians.”

He queried if Pakatan politicians even studied the feasibility of their introduced policies before making the promises.

“If those immature policies were made simply for paving way to take over Putrajaya, Malaysians and future generations will have to pay the consequences and shoulder the financial burden these irresponsible politicians left behind.”

Pakatan leaders should explain how they would increase the revenue of the country to cope with the additional expenditures if they came into power, he said.

“Our state treasury will be depleted of resources within two years if Pakatan’s overly ambitious policies were to take place.”

Barisan Nasional leaders, Tan stressed, had entrusted important tasks to experts and professionals to bring about transformation in the country.

He said voters should not ignore the fact that PAS had yet to give up their ultimate goal of establishing an Islamic state in Malaysia.

“When theocracy transcends democracy, the culture diversity and freedom will vanish forever.” #myvotes13 #ge13
