Awang Tengah denies remarks on NCR, says he was misquoted

LAWAS: Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan has denied that he had said PR would abolish NCR if the opposition pact formed the next government, saying he was misquoted.

“I never said the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) would abolish NCR if it forms the government but posed a question on what would happen to NCR rights in Sarawak.

“The right to NCR lands is a privilege to only Bumiputeras as DAP’s Malaysian Malaysia goes against any special privileges, and that is a question on the minds of all Bumiputeras in Sarawak,” he said.

Awang Tengah said this when asked to comment on the police report lodged by DAP and PKR against him for alleged sedition.

“Every Bumiputera in Sarawak holds dear to NCR, and they deserve an answer on DAP’s Malaysian Malaysia on equality disregarding any privilege to certain communities,” he said when met after a meeting with community leaders in Lawas yesterday.

When addressing a ‘leaders-meet-the-people’ gathering at Kampung   Rayang  near  Kuching on  April  26, he highlighted that the state BN government had always recognised NCR rights as reflected by it  giving titles to land owners and the on-going perimeter survey on NCR lands throughout the state.

On land compensation for the construction of access roads to Kampung Rayang, he said he had instructed the Land and Survey Department to look into the matter.

Earlier on, in a meeting with community leaders in Lawas District, Awang Tengah urged them to be well-versed with government policies and development projects that had already been completed in their respective areas.

“You have to be in the know of government policies, projects delivered and your respective functions to be able to communicate the true picture to your respective community,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Lawas BN candidate Datuk Henry Sum Agong and about 40 community and grassroots leaders in Lawas. #myvote #ge13
