Penerangan essay contest on Sarawak’s Golden Jubilee

KUCHING: The annual essay writing competition organised by the State Information Department (Penerangan) will be highlighting the Golden Jubilee of Sarawak’s Independence within Malaysia.

“As part of the programme to mark the state’s 50th anniversary of Independence in Malaysia, the topics of the essays are formulated to highlight the economic successes, history, certain concepts, the state colours and state anthem, multi-racial unity and the future of Sarawak,” said Penerangan acting director Zaini Mohammad during the launch of the competition yesterday.

He also said that this year’s contest will be extra special as it marks Sarawak’s independence from the British on July 22, 1963, and the formation of Malaysia with Malaya, Sabah and Singapore on Sept 16.

The contest is divided into three language categories namely, Bahasa Malaysia, English and Iban language, which are further divided into the public and senior students’ category.

The winner in the public category will receive RM1,200 cash while the first runner-up will receive RM1,000 and RM800 for third place.

A consolation prize of RM500 will also be given to the fourth, fifth and sixth best entries.

In the students’ category, the prizes will be RM1,000, RM800 and RM600.

A consolation prize of RM300 each will also be awarded to the next three best entries.

Entry forms can be obtained from Divisional and District Information offices throughout the state and the department’s website at http://www.penerangan.gov.my.

Full details on the topics and conditions of the contest are available as attachments to the entry form.

Entries, in hard and soft copies, are to be submitted to: Urus Setia, Peraduan Mengarang Esei Kenegaraan 2012, Bahagian Penerbitan Dasar Negara, Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia, Sarawak, Jalan Diplomatik Off Jalan Bako, Petra Jaya, 93050 on or before July 31, 2013.
