‘Different government will not ensure continued excellence in public service’

PUTRAJAYA: A new government to replace the present would not necessarily ensure a continuity of excellence in the public service, according to some observers within the sector.

“I believe most civil servants are happy with the existing government which has an entrenched policy and direction, besides an earnestness in ensuring the wellbeing of its employees,” said Mohamad Amsyari Mohamad Suhaimi, 32, who had been with the government for six years.

According to him, the opposition’s vision was obscure and the ideas they highlighted were merely short-term plans.

As a voter in the Putrajaya parliamentary constituency, he saw incumbent Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor who was bidding for a third term, as an effective mediator for about 90 per cent of the residents here who were civil servants.

For Abd Rashid Ahmad, 59, who had been working in the public service for 32 years, a change of government would mean new policies and a new environment that civil servants might find tedious to adapt. — Bernama
