SIBU: An Indonesian worker with a plantation here was yesterday sentenced to 10 years’ jail and eight strokes of the rattan by the Sessions Court for armed robbery.

Harinato pleaded guilty to the felony charge of robbing his work mate Hadinato of RM13,885 by using an iron rod at an oil palm plantation in Belaga at about 2am on April 17.

At about 3am on April 17, a security guard on duty at the plantation received information that a worker had been assaulted and robbed by another worker of about RM20,000.

At about 6.15am on April 20, the accused was apprehended and handed over to Sg Asap police post, Belaga, together with a sum of RM13,885.

Investigation revealed that at about 2am on April 17, the accused saw the victim leaving his living quarters to go to Bintulu to remit a sum of money to Indonesia.

The accused followed the victim, armed with an iron rod. Later, he struck him on his head, punched his face and tried to strangle him.

Fearing for his life, the victim pretended to be dead.

After the accused had fled, the victim returned to his work place.
