ENGKILILI: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has reminded the Dayaks, especially the rural Iban community, not to be easily influenced by the money politics of the opposition to entice the people’s votes on polling day tomorrow.
Taib, who is also the state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the monetary enticement was only short term gain when compared to the potential development the BN can implement to benefit people in the long run.
When officiating at the ‘leader-meet-the-people session’ during his working visit at Rh Nudong, Murad Skrang at Lubok Antu near here, he cited that Lubok Antu incumbent MP William Nyalau Badak who is also BN the candidate, will ensure that development and progress would benefit the constituents long term.
“Money handed out by the opposition would be finished in the blink of an eye but development by the BN will be enjoyed forever,” he highlighted.
At the event, he also announced a RM50,000 minor rural grant (MRP) allocation for the Rh Nudong village development and safety committee (JKKK) for the development of their longhouse.
Taib, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, said the party will provide strong support to all BN candidates throughout the state including Lubok Antu this general election.
“All of us from PBB will support Nyalau to make sure that he wins in the Lubok Antu parliamentary constituency, ensuring the constituents will reap from the continuous development here in the future,” he said.
Nyalau, who is contesting under the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) ticket for the BN, will defend his seat in a three-cornered fight against Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) president Larry Sng and Nicholas Bawin of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
On another note, Taib reminded that the state would be in need of a lot of various industrial technical workforce within the next 20 years in its bid to become a developed state, including personnel to man machines and computers in the manufacturing industry.
