SIBU: The ‘toothpick’ practical joke played on two BN-SUPP candidates Vincent Lau (Sibu) and Datuk Ting Thai King (Lanang) at a dinner held by three hawkers’ associations on Thursday ended well after Lau and Tiong decided to forgive and forget.

The two unsuspecting guests at the dinner had sat down on an upright toothpick planted on their chairs.

A press statement issued by SUPP Sibu branch yesterday said the probe from CCTV clips had nailed down a primary school boy for causing the mischief.

“We are glad the incident has ended on a happy note. The two candidates have not only forgiven the boy, the three have become friends now.”

The statement said the two SUPP men met the boy and his parents yesterday.

“Tiong greeted him (the boy) and described him as cute and smart. The two candidates liked him instantly and Tiong reached out to make friend with him.”

The statement said the initially tense meeting then turned warm and friendly.

Lau and Tiong had initially thought of lodging a police report but changed their mind after the meeting where the boy had apologised to them.

The boy said he knew the two were election candidates, the statement said.

SUPP Sibu hopes the story will end there. Lau and Tiong hoped children would not be taught to hate and be angry in politics.

Said Lau: “Ours is a community that focuses on fine education. Do not let our children pick up the political culture of negative elements.” #myvote13 #ge13
