MIRI: Mini Pau, which offers a variety of local food, is celebrating its third anniversary.

Nicely tucked by the roadside at Taman Bulatan here, this outlet is a popular spot for health conscious daily joggers and weekenders to spend quality time with their families.

Despite its name Mini Pau, the outlet does not only serve pau (Chinese buns) but dishes like laksa, chicken rice, Hokkien Mee, pork leg rice, sliced pork mee, ‘Wa Tan Ho’ and ‘Lomaikai’.

It also specialises in an array of homemade dim sum treats at an affordable price of RM3.50 per basket.

One should also try its delicious cha siew pau, pork and egg pau, red bean pau and its giant steamed pau.

Its proprietor Yoon Hwa Heng is a master of his trade. With 30 years of culinary experience, he has worked in restaurants in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Brunei, Kuala Lumpur and also Miri.

He has also worked as a cook at a local hotel here, before deciding to open his own business.

“We make the dim sum here with our own recipes, so that’s why the taste is different from others,” he said.

Yoon revealed he even supply dim sum to restaurants and coffee shops around here and exports his dim sum to towns like Sibu and Kuching and also to Sabah. He said the response was so good that at times he could not cater to the demands of his customers due to workers’ shortage.

“Now I operate my dim sum business on a smaller scale than before, because there are just too many orders from my customers,” Yoon said.

He added there are even people who came to him wanting to buy his secret recipe for an astounding RM300,000, but he refused to sell.

In connection with its third anniversary, Mini Pau is giving a special treat for senior citizens, where those aged 70 and above can have free chicken rice and Chinese tea; which is valid till May 30. Mini Pau operates from 7am till 2pm daily and is closed on Monday.
