PAGOH: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the opposition is reneging on the Malay struggles as it intends to remove the special privileges of the race and Bumiputeras if it comes to power.

He pointed out that the privileges were created with the objective of assisting the development of the Malays which had yet to reach 100 per cent development.

“We still need the support. Without such consideration, the Malays will lag far behind and if this occurs, there will be no continuity. That’s why we need this aid for as long as we are unable to stand on our own.

“The special privileges have been stated in the Constitution. But today, there are Malays who still reneged on the Malay struggles. Who are they? Pakatan Rakyat,” he said in his speech at a gathering with residents of Kampung Tengah, Paya Redan, here yesterday.

Muhyiddin was referring to the statement by PKR director of strategy, Rafizi Ramli, on Wednesday that the opposition would do away with the special privileges of the Malays and Bumiputeras, including awarding contracts to Bumiputera contractors.

Thus, Muhyiddin who is also Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, hoped that the people could make the right choice on Sunday so that the existing special privileges could be retained.

“If we want to try to give a non-BN government to administer the country, are we confident that they can defend our position, our religion, our special privileges, our language and so on?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also reminded the party machinery, especially at the district polling centres to intensify their campaigns and not to stop for as long as the BN had not achieved victory. — Bernama
