Team to handle woes – BN Labuan candidate

LABUAN: A strong and capable team would be set up within 100 days after winning the Labuan parliamentary seat, said Labuan Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Rozman Isli, yesterday.

Rozman said the team would be placed under the Labuan MP’s office. It will serve as a customer service centre to handle all kinds of situation, including problems faced by members of the public.

“I will not be able to make myself efficient in serving the people if I do not have a good team to handle all the situations such as problems and recommendations or suggestions to manage this island better. First impression is always important.

“The team will be set up immediately with sufficient capacity and capability manned by capable individuals. The people can expect this development immediately after winning the election here on this Sunday.

“I want the team to be fearless in handling all types of situations, especially problems, as these would later be processed through classification for a solution,” he said, adding that any opportunities that come to this island must be grabbed.

Rozman also said that he would be developing good relationship with all government departments here on this island by creating mutual understanding between him and the departments concerned.

Within three months after winning the election, he planned to visit all the government departments and agencies.

Meanwhile, Rozman said should the people give him the mandate in this election, he would further develop the oil and gas industry here as it is the prime sector for this island’s economy.

“The oil and gas sector here is successful because Labuan is specifically a logistic hub for oil and gas industry and we do not want the industry to be relocated somewhere else.

“I also intend to visit all the players in the sector within those 100 days to discuss with them the future direction. Our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has approved the upgrading proposal for the oil and gas industry here.

“The plan will be implemented here on this island beginning this July. One of the points in the plan is to upgrade the standard of the workers in the industry by producing more fully skilled and semi-skilled workers for the oil and gas sector,” he said.

Among the elements pinpointed in the plan were mechanical, instrument and welding where the authority, industry players and the Labuan Industrial Training Institute or Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) Labuan would work together in the implementation stages.

Rozman is also keen on to develop the tourism sector here further, besides making this island as an education hub and turning Labuan into an urban centre in Borneo.

“We do have the infrastructure and facility for the tourism industry here and we just need to fully utilise them in order to create a spin-off of business opportunities here.

“More work needs to be done after this to make this island more advanced,” he said, adding that a connection between Labuan and Sabah is crucial for the island’s future development.

Since connectivity between Labuan and Sabah is crucial, Rozman promised that he would fight for a bridge to be built to connect this island with mainland Sabah.

“Yes I would definitely fight for the bridge, but we will not promise like what the opposition did. All must be done very carefully and in stages,” he said.
