KOTA KINABALU: A veteran leader of PBS Matunggong, Porodong Magilin, has announced his quitting from PBS and his decision to help Pakatan Rakyat candidates in Kota Marudu to win in the 13th general election (GE13).

In a press statement yesterday, Porodong, who was a PBS hardcore supporter, said he had lost his confidence towards PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

“Pairin cannot be trusted anymore as he does not have the power to choose candidates in the election. He has given the power to his deputy Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili even though he is the number one leader for PBS.

“Since Pairin no longer has the power to control the party, I have decided to leave the party,” he said.

Porodong was PBS Matunggong committee member from 1994 to 2011 and was for a number of time Maximus’ proposer when he contested for the Kota Marudu seat in several general elections.

He said Maximus had promised to the people that the 2008 general election was his last term standing for the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat.

Porodong also called on Pairin to apologize to the people of Matunggong and Tandek for giving another chance to Maximus to stand in Kota Marudu in the general election even though he is from Tambunan, just because Maximus is Pairin’s nephew.

He said Maximus has been leading PBS in Kota Marudu for 19 years, so it is time for him to step down and give the chance to the people of Kota Marudu, as there are many potential leaders in the district with various qualifications.

In the statement, Porodong also said that he was disappointed with Pairin’s decision to not choose Jornah Mozihim as the candidate for Matunggong just because Maximus had threatened to quit his post as deputy president. #myvote13 #ge13
