PASIR MAS: Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin yesterday refuted an allegation on a Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF) officer being given a 24-hour transfer for lodging a police report that the indelible ink was not permanent.

Instead, he said, the RMAF officer would be temporarily attached to the RMAF headquarters at Defence Ministry (Mindef) in Kuala Lumpur to facilitate investigation by the board of inquiry.

He said the officer concerned would be attached to Mindef effective Monday (May 6) and would be working like normal.

“The RMAF management has ordered an inquiry and to facilitate the probe, he has been seconded to the air force headquarters pending completion of the investigation,” he told reporters after a gathering with ATM veterans in the Pasir Mas parliamentary constituency at the Pasir Mas Vocational College here yesterday. Zulkifeli said the investigation, to be carried out in stages, would take a month.

The Harakahdaily, on May 1, reported that a RMAF officer based in Butterworth had lodged a police report claiming that the indelible ink marked on his finger when he went to cast his vote on April 30 could be washed.

In another development, Zulkifeli said the ATM was stepping patrol along the border to prevent irresponsible quarters from entering the country and threatened security with the coming 13th general election.

Also present were Eighth Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier-General Datuk Mohamad Zaki Hamzah, Army Assistant Chief of Staff (Intelligence) Datuk Khir Mohd Noor and Kelantan Ex-Servicemen Association president Datuk Muhammad Abdul Ghani. — Bernama
