NAJIB urged Malaysians and leaders in the federal opposition to accept last night’s results “with an open heart”, and warned against any street demonstrations to protest the outcome.

He said BN will establish a mechanism to look into all the promises it made during campaigning to ensure that these will be implemented in full.

The Barisan Nasional, fended off a strong challenge from DAP, PAS and PKR to retain power albeit a reduced majority.

The election commission declared BN had won 132 seats, more than the 112 required for a simple majority, compared with the oppositions 84, with some constituencies still to report.
