KUCHING: The Sarawak contingent are gearing up for the coming Sukma XVI by sending their officials, coaching staff and athletes for motivational courses.

A total of 122 selected athletes have been selected to join a motivational camp in Lambir, Miri from May 9 – 12.

Only the baskeball and volleyball teams will not be attending the camp as these two teams are busy with their training and exposure matches.

Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) deputy director Abdul Mutalib Mohammad disclosed that the volleyball team, for example, will be travelling to Indonesia and Taiwan.

The team will return to Kuala Lumpur from Taiwan on June 26, just in time for Sukma XVI which will start on June 28.

Abdul Mutalib said that another motivational camp for coaches will be held Bintulu from May 13 – 16.

“We expect a total of 50 coaches and co-ordinators to participate in this course. It will be part of our mental preparation programme,” he added.

Just before departing for the games in Kuala Lumpur, the state contingent will also attend a centralised camp at the Youth and Sports Department Complex here.

The camp, called `Sukma Contingent Camp’, will be held from June 26 – 28.

Sarawak will be competing in 15 out of the 20 sports events contested in the coming Sukma. These are indoor volleyball, judo, table-tennis, artistic gymnastics, futsal, fencing, muaythai, body-building, handball, basketball, cricket, softball, rugby, silambam and kabaddi.
