I was misquoted, says Umno member

KOTA KINABALU: Sabrezani Sabdin, an Umno member who was reported to have admitted that the organisation was distributing cash as transportation claims to voters on polling day, clarified that his statement was based on assumption.

“I wish to clarify that I have been misquoted and that whatever I said in the report was purely on an assumption basis as I wasn’t present at the Umno Kota Kinabalu Branch office on May 5, the day the handouts were allegedly made.

“However on Monday, I saw the group of silent walkers outside the office and went to see what was happening. Being a member of Umno, I felt compelled to explain. But whatever I said were assumptions made based on rumours, which I had found not to be true,” he said.

Sabrezani said he wished to also retract his statement and apologised to those who had been affected by the report.

“I hope this matter stops here and whatever happened relating to the report is very much regretted,” he said.

In a report yesterday, The Borneo Post quoted Sabrezani as saying the cash distribution on May 5 was for transportation claims.

Sabrezani allegedly made the remarks in response to enquiries made by a group of youths who participated in a silent walk in the city centre on Monday.
