BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Royal Brunei (RB) Airlines has promptly dealt with a viral image of an RB aircraft partly submerged at the Brunei International Airport due to flooding that occurred late Tuesday night that was merely “edited”. RB posted a message on the national carrier’s Facebook page stating that the image was “false”, Borneo Bulletin reported.

RB also warned that creating and circulating false allegations such as this image is considered a crime. Thus RB is seeking assistance from the public to stop circulating this false image.

A Facebook user commented: “Congratulations Royal Brunei for using social media (Facebook) to stop false information in real time – Damage control in action. Please do not circulate false information even though it is meant as a joke. For us, it might seem like a joke, for others, it’s not. Please use social media sensibly. Thank you.”

The police have continuously reminded the public on several occasions regarding this matter.

The penalty for such an offence comes under Section 34 of the Public Order Act, Capl 48. Offenders could be imprisoned up to a term of three years or slapped with a fine of $3,000. –Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
