KOTA BAHARU: A magistrate yesterday not only sentenced three youths to jail and fined them but meted out a dose of advice on the pitfalls of getting too carried away by politics.

Mohd Nabil Fikri Mohd Zain, 21, who works in a car rental company, cleaner Ahmad Redza Aziz, 22, and plumber Mohd Aiman Muhammad, 28, pleaded guilty to kicking and tearing up a Barisan Nasional poster on a campaign vehicle in front of the Kelantan Trade Centre, Jalan Stadium here on May 3.

“It doesn’t matter who you support but don’t get obsessed with any political party. Have your say through the proper channel.

“At the end of the day you have to face the consequences alone. As you can see there’s no one to support you here today,” said Magistrate Nik Habri Muhamad as he sentenced the unrepresented trio to three days in jail and fine of RM1,500 each.

Nik Habri ordered the prison sentence to take effect from the day of their arrest on May 6 and a further three months jail in default of the fine.

The youths were charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which is punishable by up to two years in prison, fine or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurliyana Md Zukri appeared for the prosecution. — Bernama
