20,000 expected for Youth Day celebration

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State-level Youth Day celebration will be held at the Likas Sports Complex on May 17-19.

Sabah Youth Council president Kevin Lim said the opening ceremony would be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on May 18, where invited artistes and lucky draws are waiting for the guests.

“We are expecting 20,000 youths from all over the state to join this three-day celebration, where they will have the opportunity to visit various booths from 8am to 10pm.

“Programmes include human capital development, volunteerism, skills and entrepreneurship, talent show, youth segment, educational and career, green carnival, patriotism programme and also tourism,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

Among the activities for the event are Yassin recital at City Mosque, booth exhibitions at the complex’s foyer, food bazaar at the volleyball field, film and drama audition at the multi-purpose hall, deejay battle at the open stage and photography workshop.

Martial arts demonstration such as Capoeira, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitshu will be also showcased on the 19th at the open stage.

According to Lim, all activities during the event will encourage positive development of the youths, and also give them the space and medium to showcase their talents.

Prizes for the lucky draw during the opening ceremony are electronic goods such as LED TV, refrigerator, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, hampers and goodies.
