KOTA KINABALU: Kawang assemblyman Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar has vowed to carry out his duties as the new Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development with full responsibility.

The former Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister said his responsibilities in the new ministry would be bigger as its functions and roles were huge, especially in the context of providing infrastructure development to the people throughout the state.

Ghulam who has defended the Kawang seat for three consecutive terms, added that he appreciated the trust and responsibility bestowed on him by the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership, especially Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

“I promise to carry out my responsibility the best I can and to the expectations of the party leadership as well as that of the rakyat who have high hopes on the BN government. In appreciation to the Chief Minister for having the trust on me to continue being in the state cabinet, I promise to be committed and dedicated in carrying out my duties,” he said.

Ghulam also disclosed that during his tenure as Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister, he had assisted in the implementation of the government’s housing agenda for the people, including those in Kawang.

“Now at a new ministry, which is Infrastructure Development, my duties will be more challenging as this ministry has a bigger and wider function as well as role, especially in the context of providing basic infrastructure for the rakyat,” he added.

He said in his capacity as an assistant minister, he would be helping the minister, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, to ensure that the ministry functioned well.

“Our ultimate goal is to serve the people as they have given BN the trust and mandate to continue administering the state as well as country. This also shows that they want the development agenda to continue so we must work hard to fulfill what the rakyat want,” he said.

He was of the opinion that BN’s victory in Sabah is the manifestation and aspiration of the people’s support for the transformation agenda introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The transformation agenda he said, encompassed all aspects that are in accordance with the aim to bring Malaysia towards achieving a developed country status by 2020 which is less than seven years away.

Therefore all efforts and approaches in implementing development programs must be intensified in the next five years, he stressed, adding that the government’s five-year term was not long, so it would do its best to help the rakyat.
