STILL A LONG JOURNEY AHEAD: The Sarawak team lining up before the match against Sime Darby FC last Friday. Despite winning the match to top the Premier League, Alberts reminded his team that their journey is by no means over.

KUCHING: Sarawak currently top the Premier League after defeating Sime Darby FC last Friday but head coach Robert Alberts insists that the fight is far from over.

According to him there are many more tough matches to play before Sarawak can blow their trumpet.

As an example, he said that the next match against PDRM will be just as difficult as that against Sime Darby.

Sarawak is occupying the Premier League top spot for the first time this season after defeating Sime Darby FC 1-0 last Friday at the Stadium Negeri.

“The only thing that we won last night (last Friday night) was the match. Our journey is not over yet and we still have a lot of work to do,” he said.

Sarawak currently have 40 points, just one point above Sime Darby FC, in the league table.

Although he did admit that he was happy that Sarawak have finally climbed to the top of the league, he would like his players to stay focussed and not forget their target of earning promotion to next season’s Super League.

Alberts also revealed that he was upset with some media reports that suggested that the fight for the Premier League crown would be decided after last Friday’s match against Sime Darby FC.

“The report made me sound like an arrogant person. I never said such things and I think that Sarawak still have a lot of difficult matches on the way,” he added.

He hoped that such misleading reports, especially those regarding his comments on the team, will never appear again.

Sarawak will next play an away match in Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka tomorrow (May 13).
