JOHOR BAHARU: The Sultan of Johor has expressed his hope that no more groups would spread slanders and seditious information with political undertones to create hatred among the people and threaten national unity and peace.

Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar said the 13th General Election (13GE) campaign had ended and now is the time to work.

He said daunting tasks awaited the state government in the next five years, and as such all quarters must strive to unite the people and enhance Johor’s progress.

“If there are elected representatives who feel that they are not fit for the job or unable to carry out the tasks entrusted, they can get up and leave now,” he said.

He was speaking at the swearing in of Permas assemblyman Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin as the menteri besar at the Johor State Assembly, Sultan Ibrahim Building, Bukit Timbalan here yesterday.

Nine other state assemblymen also took their oath of office as state executive councillors.

The Sultan of Johor reminded elected representatives not to forget the promises made during the GE13 campaign and their responsibility to fulfil them.

“I am and will always be concerned with the well-being of the people in my state. Thus, on behalf of the people, I want every promise made to be fulfilled,” he asked.

Sultan Ibrahim said as the Johor ruler, he was not in favour of any political party and did not underestimate any party “because in my eyes, all Johorians are my subjects”.

He said for this reason he wanted Chinese and Indian representatives in the Johor state executive council.

The Chinese are represented by Pulai Sebatang assemblyman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong as Johor tourism, trade and consumerism committee chairman while the Indians by Kahang assemblyman R Vidyanathan as state unity and human resources committee chairman.
