SEREMBAN: Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) is targeting to issue 30,000 1TeachersCard to those in the teaching profession and education ministry staff within a year.

BSN retailing banking deputy chief executive Winston E Jeyaprakash said the credit card target was achieveable, following special features offered in the bank’s latest product, including low rates of financial charges.

“The 1TeachersCard credit card is an initiative of BSN, in appreciation of the contribution of teachers to Malaysians.

“The special feature of 1TeachersCard is the offer of the lowest financial charges in the credit card industry at 8.88 per cent per annum and only 0.74 per cent per month,” he said.

Jeyaprakash said this in a press conference after launching the 1TeachersCard at the 2013 Teacher’s Day Exhibition and Festival at the Youth and Sports Complex, Paroi here yesterday.

The card launch was in conjunction with Teachers’ Day tomorrow, in which the national-level celebration is expected to be launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Jeyaprakash said, the other special features enjoyed by the credit card user included annual fee waiver, with a return of RM50 for every application approved.

“Besides that, the card is also offering discounts on purchases, reward points, free PlusMiles Zing card and cash withdraw, without additional charges,” he added.

He hoped BSN’s effort would help lessen the burden of users in an emergency and prevent them from borrowing from illegal sources.

Also present at the ceremony was BSN chairman Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah, Education director-general Tan Sri Abdul Ghafar Mahmud, Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad chairman Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom and BSN chief executive officer Datuk Adinan Maning. — Bernama
