Musa chairing the State Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman yesterday advised the new cabinet ministers not to abuse the trust and mandate given to them by the electorates.

They must also double their efforts in implementing government policies as well as development agenda for the betterment of the people’s welfare, he said at a press conference after chairing the first state cabinet meeting after the 13th general election.

“I took the opportunity to advise the cabinet ministers, especially the new ones and reminded them that they must put the mandate given by the rakyat to BN to good use. They must also think about the outcome of the programs and policies so that their KPI can improve from time to time.

“We cannot take things lightly, we must be serious in carrying out all that we have planned so that the rakyat get the maximum benefits. We have, all this while established good cooperation between BN leaders and the state as well as federal civil servants. We will continue this because we know how important cooperation is towards the successful implementation of what we have planned for the rakyat,” Musa said.

“This is what I have asked from the new ministers and I also reminded the cabinet that their appointment is not a privilege but a responsibility,” he said.

He stressed that Sabah BN has to work as a strong team and each and every one of the ministers must focus on the duties as well as responsibilities pertaining to the programs and projects that are entrusted to their respective ministries.

“It is important for the state cabinet to implement a paradigm shift and mindset change when carrying out the duties they are given,” he said adding: “Make sure there are no delays, bureaucracy or making last minute decisions as well as finishing jobs at the last minute.”

Commitment, cooperation and coordination must continue to improve and the attitude of “this is not under my purview or it is not my problem” must be discarded, Musa said, adding that even though it is not under their purview, they must be proactive and find ways to assist in resolving issues that are referred to them.

“As a considerate government which has the rakyat’s interest at heart, we must always be responsive and attentive as well as take prompt action to resolve problems the rakyat are facing whether in their respective constituencies or those that are referred to their ministries,” he said.

Musa also reminded them that as administrators, the government required high commitment and support from all the civil servants as the implementing agency and department, as the effectiveness and success of all development policies and agendas depended largely on the state dedication as well as cooperation of state and federal civil servants.

“The time for politics and polemics is over; it is time for us to move forward, work, serve and do our best for the people’s prosperity as well the development of the state,” he said.

Musa also assured electorates in opposition-held areas that the BN government is a responsible as well as committed one so it will continue to carry out the development projects planned.

“On-going projects will continue because we are the BN government which is responsible to the rakyat, not the opposition. We work for the rakyat,” he said.
