KOTA KINABALU: With his appointment as the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan says he now shoulders a huge responsibility.

Urban issues are very pertinent among Malaysians as more than half of the country’s population is residing in urban areas, he said when contacted to comment on his appointment yesterday.

The Kota Belud member of parliament also said that the issue of housing is another one that needs to be looked into and resolved.

Abdul Rahman, who is also Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary, thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for the unprecedented numbers of ministers and deputy ministers from Sabah appointed to the federal cabinet.

The appointment of six full ministers and four deputy ministers from Sabah is the BN leadership’s acknowledgment of the state’s contribution towards its victory in the just concluded 13th general election, he pointed out.

“I am grateful to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib for having the trust in me to be a cabinet minister. My deepest gratitude also goes to the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for their guidance in my political career,” he said.

According to Abdul Rahman, the appointment was also a very big ‘thank you’ to the people of Kota Belud who had given him the mandate to be their elected representative for a second term.
