KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) expects to receive 2.25 million BE tax forms from individuals (for non-business remuneration) by 11.59pm on the deadline yesterday.

IRBM Public relations officer Masrun Maslim said as at 2pm yesterday, 1.94 million forms had been received through e-Filing (online).

Masrun said the figure was a 10 per cent increase from 1.76 million in the same period last year.

“The e-Filing system received encouraging response from the public who are beginning to realise its advantages, such as that they would not be constrained by time and could submit their forms via online.

“Besides, they could also claim overpayment refund via online expeditely,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

On the possibility of online congestion throughout last night, Masrun said the e-Filing traffic capacity had been upgraded to avoid any technical problem. He gave the assurance that the forms would reach the IRBM on time.

“We did receive complaints from the public about some e-filing traffic crawl but it could be due to their own internet line because the IRBM line had been upgraded to receive the forms in bulk at one time,” he said.

Masrun said the IRBM further expected 2.8 million people to submit the various tax returns this year compared to 2.7 million last year. — Bernama
