KUCHING: Students interested in studying architecture can do so at UCSI University with their accredited programme. School leavers, especially Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) holders can begin their first step to obtain a degree in architecture by enrolling in UCSI’s Foundation Studies in Arts or Science.

The minimum requirement to enrol for the foundation studies is five credits in the SPM examination. The students will then go through the foundation studies at UCSI University Sarawak Campus before they can enter the School of Architecture and Build Environment to pursue an architecture degree. The architecture degree in UCSI University is accredited by the Council of Architectural Education Malaysia (CAEM) which is run by Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM).

To date, there are only two private institutions accredited by LAM. The degree qualification together with acceptable professional experience and the fulfilment of endorsed requirements to be a professional architect will realise one’s dream of becoming an architect. Meanwhile, for a better education system, UCSI University has implemented the Praxis approach which requires all its students to complete six months of professional internship to become more relevant and competitive. During the internship period, the students will be exposed to real-life situations faced by people from different levels of society in this country.

Besides paving the way to an architecture degree, the Foundation Studies in Arts can also lead to other degree programmes such as Psychology, Fashion Design, Mass Communication, Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Management, Event and Tourism Management and Commerce.

Enrolment for the May and September intakes is now in progress. For more information on the courses available at UCSI University Sarawak Campus, call 60-82-455 255 or visit www.ucsiuniversity.edu.my.
