KAPIT: Lions Club Kapit, together with Rejang Toy Boat Project, under its outreach programme is going into the rural areas to assist children with special needs (OKU) in longhouses in the Kapit District.
The Rejang Toy Boat is an extended programme of the centre at Sungai Kanowit known as Muhibah Centre. This project is wholly sponsored by two Japanese NGOs — Poiva and Ace led by Prof Ken Nakazawa and his wife Kazuyo. The coordinator in Kapit is Anthony Jalin Manggie.
On May 14, the Lions Club, led by president Lion Ling Bee Chung, handed over a wheelchair and a walking frame to two handicapped children at Rumah Pengulu, Sungai Menuan, Kapit.
Yesterday, a Japanese journalist Sugimotor Shozo from Tokyo joined the team to visit Rumah Penghulu.
Evelyn Biju, Moonly Tiang, Ting Bee Eng from PDK Kapit and community nurse Eviyen from Klinik Kesihatan Kapit also lent a helping hand in training these children to use the equipment and educational toys provided by the NGOs. Anthony also gave a motivation talk about parenting to the longhouse folks.
