MIRI: Teachers play an important role in nation building.

So important is their role as educators, that Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau Jok has described them as the main pillar and contributor of human resource for the country’s growth.

“A student is the country’s future human resource that will propel it to greater progress and prosperity,” he said during the Teacher’s Day celebration of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pujut at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club recently.

He thus reminded teachers to be dedicated to their profession and produce students of high quality.

“We are aware that the era has changed and the ability of a nation to continue progressing is through the quality of students who will constitute the workforce one day,” he added.

He cited Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) as an example where industries require highly skilled and semi-skilled labour.

“The high tech world now demands highly skilled or semi-skilled workers,” Ngau added.

At the same time, he said skilled workers would be able to earn high income.

Meanwhile, the Teacher’s Day celebration coincided with the school’s 10th anniversary.
