100 to compete in AAM Motorcross Championship

MIRI: National woman motorcross rider, Siti Haida Jaffri will be among the 100 participants competing in the third series of the AAM Malaysian Motocross Championship to be held at Permy Motorcross Track tomorrow.

Haida, a 17-year-old from Kelantan had competed in the FIM Asia championship and is one of the top 10 riders in the country.

Also competiting is Hairi Zakaria, one of the top 3 national riders who was champion in the first series of the championship held in Kota Samarahan recently.

Chairman of the Sarawak Automotive Racing Sport Association (Sarsa), Hii Chang Hoon told The Borneo Post that riders from Brunei and Indonesia will be competing in the invitational AAM Borneo Motocross Challenge to be held on the same day.

Hii together with the organising committee members recently made a courtesy call on Miri Mayor, Lawrence Lai Yew Son.

Among those present during the function were Sarawak Motorcross Club chairman, Kong Shan Nyan who is also the event organising chairman and Lucas Tan from Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM).

Miri’s mayor was invited to flag off the race on Sunday morning while Assistant Minister for Communications and Sports, Datuk Lee Kim Shin will give away prizes to winners later in the afternoon.

The event was organised by Sarsa in collaboration with Miri City Council (MCC) and Miri Resident Office, supported and endorsed by KPSU and sanctioned by AAM.

Lai meanwhile told reporters that the council encouraged motocross events be held in Miri to further promote and increase the standard of the sports.

“Events like this augur well for the promotion of healthy lifestyle besides promoting Miri City…our motocross track, one of the best in the region is ideal venue for international level competition,” Lai said.

The event is divided into five categories namely the MX Open (Malaysian Series), MX125 (Malaysian Series), MX Veteran (Borneo Series), MX Open (Sarawak Closed Club Series), and Rookies Invitation Challenge Cup (Brunei Club Series).
