TAWAU: A 43-year-old businessman who just withdrew RM60,000 from a bank yesterday lost it all when two snatch thieves on a motorcycle smashed the window of his car on the passenger side and snatched the money that was kept on the car seat and fled.

District police chief, ACP Awang Besar Dullah, said, the incident happened at about 12 noon at the shophouses at Taman Bintang, Mile 3 Apas Road.

He said the victim had just withdrew the money from a bank at Fajar Complex and stopped to buy medicine at a pharmacy after parking his car in front of a coffee shop.

The victim was startled when he heard the sound of his car alarm and went out of the pharmacy to inspect. He found the window on the passenger’s side of his car had been smashed and the money, meant for a trip to Hong Kong, missing.

Awang Besar said, police believed the victim was tailed from the bank and that the two suspects on a blue motorcycle had taken the opportunity while the victim was in the pharmacy.

He said the case will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries a seven years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

He advised members of the public intending to withdraw large amount of cash to always bring along a friend and to avoid stopping any where in order to avert giving an opportunity to thieves.
