Stolen car parts land Filipino in jail

KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino was jailed for one year and four months by the Magistrate’s Court here, yesterday for receiving stolen items worth RM7,000.

Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof meted out the sentence on Suhaimi Kiram, 27, after he admitted to dishonestly receive car parts belong to a man at a house at Taman Putra Perdana in Telipok, on May 9.

He was convicted under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of not less than six months and not more than five years, and shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

In an unrelated case, Attirmidzy Duani was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the same court for trespassing into a house at Grace Garden at Sembulan here, on May 15.

He pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum 14 years’ jail and shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

In a separate case, Indonesian Ruben Upe, 32, was fined RM700, in default, four months’ jail for injuring another man.

Nuruhuda imposed the fine after he pleaded guilty to causing hurt to the man at a café in Jalan Bundusan in Penampang, on March 21.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of two years and also liable to a fine upon conviction.

The court also ordered him to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving sentence for further action as he has no valid travel document.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali prosecuted.
