MIRI: Sixty-five people from Tudan Phase 6 received assistance from the Karma Kagyu Dharma Association Miri yesterday.

They received a bag of rice, biscuits, instant noodles and drinks each.

The association spokesman Clement Goh, said the contribution was one of the association activities to celebrate Wesak Day and also in conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak celebration.

“While celebrating Wesak Day, we feel it would be more meaningful for us to do charity by helping the surrounding poor and needy people,” Goh stated when met by Borneo Post at the association premises yesterday.

Goh said the recipients were those from poor family background which had been listed under the society’s welfare list.

The recipients were identified through a series of home visits conducted by the association members earlier.

Being a well-known Buddhist association in Miri, the association carries out its humanitarian mission to look after the well-being of the needy in the society apart from conducting religious activities.

The association strives to help in the little way they can by donating basic needs to help alleviate their problems.

Through its charity work, it hopes to build rapport with the public and hoped other organisations would follow suit.

Meanwhile, the recipients gladly accepted the items and expressed their appreciation to the committee members for the kind gesture.
