KUCHING: Malaysian Red Crescent of SJK Chung Hua No 5 held a blood and organ donation campaign together with the MRC Stampin Chapter at Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association in conjunction with Wesak Day yesterday.

It was also held to ensure sufficient supply of blood and organs at the Sarawak General Hospital.

Over 50 participants took part in the campaign held from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

About five had taken home the organ donation forms for consideration.

Helping out at the campaign, SJK Chung Hua No.5 MRCS member Michelle Kon said she had been participating in such charity activity for many times since she joined the school’s MRC in Primary 3.

“I like joining this kind of activity which I think is meaningful to help others and save lives. Through the activities and visits to various places, I saw some less fortunate ones really had a difficult life as they are poor and sick. They need help,” she said.

The Primary 6 active MRC member said she would continue participating in charity to reach out to as many needy persons as she can.

In fact, she is happy with her life now. She said doing charity does not affect her study as she manages her time properly.

Also met at the campaign, second time blood donor Lee King Hock came with his family. He said the last time he donated blood was last Oct.

“I think I am still fit to donate. I come on my own for charity. I saw the campaign as I bought my family to pray here. My wife and mother are all supporting me,” said the 37-year-old father of three.

Regular blood donor, middle-aged William Lim said he started donating blood during his college time in the peninsula.

“In college, I and my friends heard about a pregnant woman who had an accident and needed blood to save her life. So, we all quickly went to donate blood for her. From that day, I started donating blood regularly,” he recalled.

He thought the blood donation campaign was good and it should be continued. He said he had stopped donating blood for awhile because his blood pressure went up a bit high.

Now, his condition was better and he came to donate blood again. He said he would continue doing this as long as his health permits him.

Another regular blood donor, Lee Shaw Chuan said he would donate blood wherever he went. He said when he was in Taiwan, he also donated blood.

He would still participate whenever there is a blood donation campaign.
