Man jailed two days for stealing aluminium rods

KUCHING: A man who pleaded guilty in the magistrate’s court to theft of aluminium rods at Kampung Haji Baki was jailed for two days yesterday.

Talip Apek, 46, committed the offence near Kampung Haji Baki here at 12.50pm on May 23.

Talip was spotted by the police patrol unit near a house in the village and on checking the nearby bushes, they found two gunny sacks of cut aluminium rods.

The accused was arrested and brought to the police station where he admitted having committed the offence. Talip was convicted of a charge under Section 37(1) of the Minor Ordinance 1957.

In the same court room, a man charged with retaining a silver Proton Waja last week claimed trial.

Thian Fook Ngien from Kampung Siburan allegedly committed the act at Jalan Market around 3pm on May 22.

Retaining stolen property, under Section 411 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum five years’ jail and fine upon conviction.

The presiding magistrate set June 26 for case management while the trial was fixed for July 22 and 23.
