SIBU: Sibu Resident’s Office is assisting to collect public donations for victims of Belaga boat mishap.
It is accepting donations on behalf Kapit Division Disaster and Relief Committee from today onward.
Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee said they would not do the distribution as this would be done by the relief committee.
“We are receiving donations until the end of next month. Members of the public wishing to donate may just drop by our office during office hours. This will be a good time for corporate bodies to chip in as part of their social corporate responsibility (CSR) programme.
“Donation in cash or cheque is preferred,” Sim added, saying that they would lump the amount in a cheque to be sent to the committee.
As for those in Selangau and Kanowit, they could approach their respective district offices, said Sim.
Ensuring transparency, he said all donations would be properly recorded and receipts would be issued.
He said the public would be notified when they handed over the donations to the committee in Kapit.
On Tuesday, the ill-fated Kawan Mas express boat sank at Tanjung Tukok Punyang Gian, Belaga.
