KOTA BAHARU: Robbers fled with RM217,950 prised from a bank’s automated teller machine (ATM) located at a Tabung Haji Building at Jalan Masjid Lama here, Saturday.

Deputy State Police Chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the robbery was discovered about 8.30am by members of the public who wanted to use the ATM service.

He said the robbery went unnoticed because robbers had covered the glass wall of the building with a banner.

Initial police investigation found that the robbers had used an oxy-acetylene torch to cut open the machine, he said when contacted.

Mazlan said police had recovered finger prints at the scene and would also view recordings of the closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) in the area to identify the culprits.

He urged those with information on the incident to contact the police. –BERNAMA
