Hasmy Agam reappointed Suhakam chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Hasmy Agam has been reappointed chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) for a three-year term effective April 26, said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) yesterday.

The statement said Prof Datuk Dr Khaw Lake Tee, Prof Datuk Dr Mahmood Zuhdi A.Majid and James Deva Nayagam had also been reappointed as Suhakam commissioners for the same period.

It added that Prof Datuk Dr Aishah Bidin, Francis Johen anak Adam and Sylvester Madating @ Nordin Kasim were appointed as new members of Suhakam.

According to the PMO, the appointments had received the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah as provided for under Sub-section 5(2) of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999 (Act 597).

“And in accordance with Sub-section 6(1) of Act 597, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong had also consented to Tan Sri Hasmy Agam’s reappointment as  Suhakam chairman,” the statement added. — Bernama
