KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa yesterday warned of action against civil servants who continue to engage in politicking.

He said the action would be taken in accordance with the regulations, circulars and laws under the ambit of the Public Service Department (PSD).

All heads of department had been asked to monitor and take action or report to the PSD should they detect civil servants continuing to engage in politicking, especially in the social media, he told reporters after closing the 2013 annual conference of the Association of Wives of Public Servants and Women in the Public Service (Puspanita), here.

Ali said the period for politicking ended with the announcement of the outcome of the 13th general election (on May 5) and it was now the time for civil servants to assist the national administration to implement the national transformation agenda.

“Now is the time for the civil servants to move forward and carry on with the efforts towards implementing the national transformation agenda in earnest,” he said.

Ali was asked to comment on the advise by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for civil servants to refrain from excessive politicking that could retard the nation’s march forward.

He said civil servants should think ahead, be more productive and optimise the use of limited resources, be quick in making decisions, and be precise in formulating policies or programmes in the people’s interest.

Civil servants should also have integrity and be creative and innovative in using various approaches to improve public service delivery and using the social media to disseminate information on government policies, he said.

Asked about developments on the plan to establish the Transformative Remuneration System (SST) to substitute the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM), Ali said the first stage of the process of establishing the SST, which covered 81 schemes of service, would be completed by the end of November this year.

“In July, we will have completed six schemes of service. The rest will be completed later.

“It is an ongoing process which will cover all the 289 schemes of service,” he said. — Bernama
