MIRI: Pustaka Miri has extended its philately exhibition until this Sunday (June 9).

Pustaka Miri public relations officer Sofina Tan said the exhibition, originally to end on May 31, was extended to enable more visitors to view the Malaysia Book of Records’ (MBR) longest philately line.

However, she said only part of the record-breaking 69,689-metre philately materials will be exhibited.

“It is to give the opportunity for philately enthusiasts to view the exhibition, especially holidaymakers, once they come back to Miri after long holidays — Gawai Dayak celebration and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday,” she said yesterday.

The exhibition opens daily from 10am to 6pm.

Items on display include postage stamps, first day covers and postcards, some of which date back to Rajah James Brooke’s era.

They are part of avid antique and philatelic collector Lucas Johnny’s collection.

Lucas contributed 8,267 philatelic items out of the total 28,613 pieces needed to create the record.

The rest were contributed by 34 individuals and six groups – two each from SK Anchi and Miri Hospital and one each from Sedidik Lembah Hijau’s kindergarten and Pustaka Miri.
