KUALA LUMPUR: A RM10 million defamation suit filed by former Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat against former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Mohd Noor and six others was yesterday resolved after both parties reached an out-of-court settlement.

Abdul Rahim’s counsel, Choo Shi Jin, told the media that the parties had recorded the settlement in chambers before High Court Judicial Commissioner Lee Heng Cheong.

Choo said the plaintiff and defendants agreed to the settlement with no admission of liabilities. However, he said, the terms of the settlement could not be disclosed.

“Following that, Nik Abdul Aziz had withdrawn the suit,” said the lawyer.

On May 31 last year, Nik Abdul Aziz filed the suit, naming Abdul Rahim, three New Straits Times (NST) newspaper reporters — Rahmah Ghazali, Lim Poh

Lean and Nik Imran Abdullah, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) group editor in-chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid, then NST editor in-chief Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun and NSTP as defendants.

In his statement of claim, Nik Abdul Aziz said the defendants were jointly responsible for writing and had caused the publication of an article on page 6 of the newspaper on May 8, last year. — Bernama
