Salesman denies molest charge

KOTA KINABALU: A local salesman claimed trial in the magistrates’ court here yesterday to molesting and injuring a manager.

Tang Ka Kee, 25, who appeared before Magistrate Edward Paul, was charged on the first count under Section 354 of the Penal Code with outraging a woman’s modesty by touching her breast and pulling her socks in an entertainment outlet at KK Times Square at 3am on June 1.

The indictment carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and is also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

Tan also stands accused of hurting the woman at the same time and place and was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which is punishable by a maximum jail term of one year and is also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The accused was released on RM3,500 bail for both charges with two local sureties at the request of Counsel Ram Singh and the magistrate has set July 18 for Tan to stand trial.

Counsel YS Lo stood in for Ram yesterday.

In an unrelated case, a foreigner was sentenced to seven months in jail by the same court for possessing a fake identity card.

Asrap Manangca, 41, pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Regulation 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which carries a jail term of up to three year or a fine, upon conviction.

He was caught for having a MyKad bearing the serial number 760217-12-5157 under the name of one Gadafy Samah at a restaurant in Sinsuran on May 26.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat appeared for the prosecution.
