Celcom marks maiden foray into digital entertainment services with ESCAPE

KUCHING: Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) has officially unveiled a new digital entertainment service, ESCAPE, exclusively for Celcom’s customers in East Malaysia.

Speaking at the launch of ESCAPE after the official announcement of Celcom’s first quarter (1Q) results here at Four Points yesterday, Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly, chief executive officer of Celcom said, ESCAPE marks Celcom’s maiden foray to the world of digital services and entertainment.

Shazalli, who is also the director of ESCAPE, said ESCAPE is also part of Celcom’s effort in digital transformation.

The launch of ESCAPE in Kuching was also in conjunction with the Hari Gawai festivities. According to Shazalli, Celcom customers in Sarawak will be among the first in Malaysia to enjoy the service as the service is not yet available in Peninsular Malaysia.

To note, ESCAPE is a personal entertainment space service that allows streaming of watch movies, TV series, live broadcasts and events on smartphones, tablets, laptops and personal computers.

“This service has very unique characteristics. It allows pause and play (of video streaming) across multiple devices,” Shazalli explained.

Celcom customers can register for ESCAPE on its website at www.ESCnow.com. Additionally, from June 1 to August 31, 2013, Celcom also offers RM6 worth of movies and events to prepaid customers on Xpax, UOX, SOX and CelcomFrenz who register by sending ‘ESCAPE’ to 28882 via SMS for each RM10 reloaded into prepaid accounts, or a RM18 credit for RM30 reloads.

“Customers who register and reload by June 13, 2013 also stand a chance to be some of the first in Malaysia to catch an exclusive screening of ‘Man of Steel’ at the Spring, Kuching on June 15,” a press statement noted.

In conjunction with the launch of ESCAPE, new cusomters who sign up for selected Celcom First with mobile Internet plan at Blue Cube from Celcomat Plaza Merdeka and the Spring between June 8 and 14, 2013, will also be entitled to two tickets to ‘Man of Steel’.

Apart from ESCAPE, Celcom is also offering exclusive promotions for Sarawak in conjunction with Hari Gawai.

From May 1, 2013, Xpac launched an exclusive prepaid pack for new subsribers in Sarawak in conjunction with Hari Gawai.

Retailing at only RM8.50 each, the starter pack is available until June 30, 2013 and features rates at 2.8 sen for calls per minute and one sen per SMS. Celcom also offers optional additional voice or SMS and data packages at only RM1. This promotion is only available while stocks last.

“Celcom will also be offering a popular brand-name smartphone at only RM458 to customers who sign up to a Celcom First Prime Plan and mAdvance data plan with a monthly commitment of only RM98. This offer will be availble from selected Blue Cube from Celcom and authorised dealers,” Celcom’s press statement noted.

Meanwhile, during the media briefing yesterday, Celcom also showcased various promotions which include ‘Time to Reload, Win a Watch’ of which customers can stand a chance to win a luxury watch worth RM10,000 daily, and a watch worth RM30,000 during surprise dates which will be announced by the company.

In addition, Celcom also introduced Celcom PortaWiFi which is a personal WiFi hotspot device that with speeds of up to 21mbps. The PortaWiFi can be powered up from any USB port on laptops or desktops, car power points and wall sockets, for a personalised and secure mobile WiFi connections at home, on the road and while traveling.

“Customer who sign up for any Celcom First Data plan from today to June 30, 2013 will get a PortaWiFi for free. They have the option of data plans from as low as RM68 a month, monthly data quotas of up to 10GB, and also enjoy a rebate of RM50 over ten months,” the press statement added.
