Pregnant housewife cheats death in snatch attempt near supermarket

TEMERLOH: A housewife, who is in her fifth month pregnancy, cheated death after falling on the road in a snatch attempt near a supermarket yesterday morning.

The incident at 11.20am left the victim with injuries and pregnancy bleeding after falling onto the road when a man on a motorcycle tried to snatch her handbag from behind.

Temerloh police chief ACP Aziz Salleh said the 24-year-old suspect, however, failed to relieve the woman of her handbag and her necklace.

“The suspect then pushed the victim to the ground, leading to a struggle with victim’s husband and the public who came to their aid,” he told reporters at his office, here yesterday.

Aziz said the woman was taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital by her husband for treatment, while the suspect who was also injured in the scuffle was arrested by police after receiving treatment at the same hospital.

“The victim is unhurt, while the suspect will be detained for a week for further investigation and charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing injury to the victim,” he said while expressing appreciation and gratitute to the public concerned and who had helped the victim and her husband.

He said police investigation found that the suspect was believed to have an accomplice, and had been active in snatch crimes in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. — Bernama
