KOTA KINABALU: Four foreigners, including a woman, were arrested separately on suspicion of involvement in an armed-robbery late last month.

Deputy city police chief, superintendent M. Chandra, said, the suspects were arrested at two separate locations in the state capital on June 3 after taking part in an armed robbery case in Lintas, Luyang.

“Police investigation revealed that three of the male suspects, armed with a machete, had in May last month robbed a 43-year-old woman of her cell phone while she was walking in the area at around 3.30 pm.

“The three suspects approached the woman, with one of them pulling out a machete to threaten the victim to hand over her handbag. The victim refused and put up a fight with the suspects before they fled the scene with only the victim’s cell phone,” Chandra disclosed at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Chandra said, acting on the police report and their continuous investigation, police was able to detain a 19-year-old foreign woman on June 3 and the arrest led police to apprehend the other three male suspects, aged 21 to 41, at an unnumbered house in Telipok on the same day.

“During the raid at the unnumbered house, police found numerous items believed to be stolen goods. Investigation is still ongoing to determine if the suspects were involved in other gang-robbery activities,” he said

The suspects are currently remanded as the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery and armed robbery.
