KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has welcomed 721 new students to its Science Fundamental Programme for the 2013 and 2014 pre-university session.

This intake will be the fourth generation since its first intake in 2010.

“You are among the lucky 721 from over 10,000 applicants. Congratulations to all of you.” said the university’s vice-chancellor Prof Dato Dr Mohammad Kadim Suaidi at a welcoming ceremony yesterday.

During the ceremony, the 721 new students took oath to commit to follow the acts, constitutionals, statutes, and university regulations as well as to commit themselves to excel in their studies.

The oath taking was the highlight of a five-day programme to expose them to the new environment in the campus.

“This will be your biggest transition from secondary school to university phase which will be more challenging,” Kadim stated.

He also hoped the students will maintain good relations and unity with one another despite coming from different ethnic backgrounds, political ideologies, economic standards and social status.
