MUAR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday that it was up the MCA leadership whether to revoke their earlier stand not to accept any government posts.

He said the decision to review or rescind the stand was MCA’s right, while the Barisan Nasional (BN) would accept whatever decision is taken by them.

“If there is anything that they want to review or retract, it’s up to them… it is their right.

“I’m not sure whether it is the time for them to do so, some say it’s too early… about MCA, we leave it to MCA,” he said.

Muhyiddin was speaking to reporters after attending a thanksgiving function held at Sekolah Menengah Tengku Temenggong Ahmad in Kundang Ulu, here.

He was acompanied by his wife Puan Seri Norainee Abd Rahman. Also present were Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Muhyiddin was commenting on Dr Chua’s statement yesterday that the MCA’s decision not to accept any government posts at the federal or state levels could be reversed an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of the party of its annual general meeting in December if the majority of its central delegates wished so.

Meanwhile, on calls that the posts of Umno president and deputy president should not be contested at the party’s general assembly this year, Muhyiddin said it was too early for him to comment on the matter.

“As we know Umno is a democratic party. It’s not the individual’s right but the rights of members and party that matters. I will not comment, wait until when the right time come,” he said.

Several parties, including Umno Youth and Negeri Sembilan Umno have suggested that the both posts should not be contested but Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob in a statement held a contrary opinion and said both posts should be contested as Umno practised democracy and openness to its members.
